Xiaomi has recently announced on its Weibo about the Android 7.0 update plans for Xiaomi devices. But surprisingly, appearing in the first list of devices updated to Android 7.0 Nougat OS is not the company’s latest flagship smartphones. Instead that, Xiaomi starts with the selection of 2015 Mi smartphones.
The first smartphones from Xiaomi updated to Android 7.0 Nougat OS will be the Mi 4C, Mi 4S, and the Mi Note phones. Although Xiaomi did not confirm, we hope that the Android Nougat update will come with MIUI 9 instead of the current MIUI 8, which is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS. There is also no info when the Android Nougat update will arrive to the handsets listed in the post, but we think it could possibly come with by early next year.
Among the 2015 Mi devices, Xiaomi also confirmed the update for its latest flagships such as Mi 5S, Mi Note 2, and the Mi Mix. But obviously, owners of the latest Xiaomi flagship smartphones will have to wait longer, as the update for them is expected to only start rolling out after Xiaomi releases the Nougat update for the Mi 4C, Mi 4S, and the Mi Note.

So far, Xiaomi has traditionally not rolled out the new OS updates for its smartphones, but we’re still happy when they are supporting for older devices. That’s great when Xiaomi are prioritizing smartphones introduced in 2015 over ones.
Until now, we have only seen a few Android OEMs start rolling out the Android 7.0 Nougat update to their flagship devices including LG, Motorola, HTC, Sony, and Huawei. The only major OEM that has not rolled out the Nougat update yet is Samsung, but the company is expected to begin updating Android Nougat for the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 Edge early next month.
