You have just bought a brand new iPhone 8 / 8 Plus, but it’s not turning on. You can blame for Apple, but if it’s not the case related to this problem, they won’t address it publicly. Instead of wasting your time to bring your new iPhone to the Apple Store, you can try to resolve the issue yourself.
Based on our past experiences, we had various iPhone models that won’t turn on after purchasing it home from the store. We got some tricks to fix this problem in no time. If your iPhone 8/ 8 Plus does not power on for the first time or after some usages, you should try the following tips below.
Force Restart your iPhone 8
While the home button is still kept on this model, it is no longer available for force restarting your device. Instead, Apple suggested using the volume buttons.
To restart your iPhone 8/ 8 Plus:
- Quickly press and release the Volume Up buttons.
- Do the same thing with the Volume Down
- Finally, press and hold the Power button until Apple logo appears.
If your iPhone is booting up, you no longer have to worry about this problem anymore. If your iPhone 8 still doesn’t boot up, you should try the tips below.
Although this is rare, some users have recently reported that their iPhone 8 came with no charge on the battery. Although this is an issue that you should complain to Apple, it’s easy to fix. All you need to do is finding the charging cable, plug it into your iPhone with the charger and wait for about 20 mins or until it turns on.
Note: You should keep track of your battery usage if you received an iPhone 8/8 Plus without the charge. Your phone needs a battery replacement or it will drain faster than others.

Your iPhone 8 suddenly shut down
You are using your new iPhone, but it suddenly just turn off and shows a black screen. While you try to turn it back on, it still doesn’t work. It might come from a software problem. If you are able to boot up your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update to get the latest iOS 11 version.
If you are not able to turn your iPhone 8/ 8 Plus back on, plug it a computer that has already been installed the latest version of iTunes. After that, put your device into recovery mode to perform a quick update.
How to Enter Recovery Mode on iPhone 8/ 8 plus
- Press and release the Volume Up button
- Next, press and then release the Volume Down button
- Press and hold the Power button until the recovery mode screen appears. It shows an iTunes icon with apple.com/iphone/restore message.
On the iTunes, it also appears a popup saying “There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored.” We recommend you to update, as it will just reinstall the version without erasing your existing data such as apps or document.
